Be the Change Consulting: Summer Bootcamp Agency Trainings

Ready, Set, Let’s Goooooo! It's time for Summer Bootcamp without the SQUATS. 

DCYF is partnering up with Be the Change Consulting to offer onsite professional development to support youth development practitioners to get ready for Summer Programming! There's a wide range of topics being offered that can support your staff this summer. 

In order to be considered, you will have to host the Be The Change team at your site for the pre selected times. If space is an issue, please include that in the application for us to consider when selecting participants. Agency must have 10+ staff in order to be considered for bootcamp trainings.

Founded in 2004, Be the Change is a woman-of-color-owned and people-of-color-operated capacity-building firm based in Oakland, California. We believe that learning should be fun and the people. Our sessions are experiential and packed with social justice-centered content and framework.

Healing Centered Engagement Certification (HCE)

What is Healing Centered Engagement?

Healing Centered Engagement (HCE) was coined by Dr. Shawn Ginwright in 2018 to advance a new and effective way to support young people of color and their adult allies. It is an asset based, and culturally rooted approach to healing and well-being. The Healing Centered Engagement Practitioner Certification teaches school educators, administrators and youth development professionals how to address trauma by using healing centered practices and principles, in afterschool settings, schools and classrooms.

What will you learn with this course?

This course provides detailed information and concrete actions that answer not just the “why” but also the “how” of creating the best classroom and school support for young people and the school professionals who serve them. For more than 30 years, Dr. Ginwright and the Flourish Agenda team have put their whole hearts into this. This is love work!

Learning Experience

  • The HCE Certification comprises of 6 online, self-paced modules which can be completed on desktops, laptops, mobile devices and tablets.

  • The program is completed in a cohort based model where participants progress through the certification on a definitive timeline with their peers.

  • Participants will receive 3 Continuing Education Units from San Francisco State University upon completion.

  • Each cohort will be accompanied with two live 75-minute virtual sessions with a Flourish Agenda trainer.

  • The course takes approximately 16 to 20 hours to complete and will be scheduled out over the course of 8 weeks.

  • Once you start this course, you will have access to it for One Year (365 days) that will include all reading materials, documents and recordings.

  • Certification status can be renewed for another year for an additional fee.

Cohort Dates: 

  • Session One: Thursday, May 30th from 10AM-12PM

  • Session Two: Thursday, June 27th from 10AM -12PM

  • Session Three: Thursday, July 25th from 10AM - 12PM

Blaze Forward Leadership Cohort

Do you hold a supervisory/management/leadership role in your organization? Are you responsible for the development and growth of others in your organization? The Blaze Forward Leadership Cohort is an impactful opportunity to invest in your capacity to grow your skillfulness as a leader. This program features peer-supported learning sessions along with individual coaching focused on what you need most to become your best.  To join this cohort, you must be able to attend ALL meeting dates and times. 

  • Who? Newly promoted leaders including program coordinators, program managers, program directors who are responsible for the training and supervision of staff or volunteers. Also organizational middle managers who desire to grow their coaching skills and team facilitation skills. NOTE: This cohort is not for for TAY or youth interns

  • Why? The number of youth development and nonprofit professionals in new positions is growing due to the amazing talent in our organizations and the dynamic turnover rate in the field. Many of these newly promoted leaders experience a gap between their current level of competence and what their job announcement describes. This can leave the leader feeling overwhelmed, stuck or like an imposter.

  • What’s in it for me? Increased confidence to lead teams. Certificate of Completion to acknowledge your participation. Concrete skills we will explore include:

    • Coaching skills

    • Conflict resolution skills

    • Meeting facilitation skills

  • What: Peer-focused learning community, individual coaching to focus on the participant’s needs

Facilitating Career Development Institute (FCDI)

The Career Services Provider (CSP) certificate was developed by the National Career Development Association to provide standards, training specifications, and an industry recognized certification for career professionals. This title and certificate are highly recognized and valued among professionals in the workforce development field, and is stackable (GCDF and CCSP). This in-depth training is offered via 120 hours of blended learning (a combination of virtual class time and projects, assignments, reading, coaching, and more). Learn more here

Positive Youth Development Cohort

Have you worked in youth development for three or more years? Are interested in becoming an expert in youth development or perhaps you just want to deepen your knowledge and take your practices to the next level? The Positive Youth Development Cohort is for you.

The PYD Cohort is a group of seasoned youth development professionals that want to be on the cutting edge of the field, who want to push the boundaries of traditional youth development practices to be more responsive and future forward.

In this 10 session cohort, you will learn strategies for:

  • Deepening safety and fostering an environment of radical inclusion

  • Designing relevant programs that build the life skills and confidence of our youth

  • Preparing young people for authentic leadership and socially impactful experiences

PYD is for:

  • City and Cpunty of San Francisco, Department of Children, Youth and their Families (DCYF) Grantees

  • Direct Service staff, Site or Program Coordinators/Directors

  • Professionals that have 3 or more years of experience in the field

  • People who want a career in youth development or education

 PYD Cohort Participants Receive:

Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional Certificate (CNAP)

A nationally-recognized certification program, the Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) training program teaches critical skills and best practices specific to nonprofit financial management. A CNAP designation certifies the expertise and commitment of nonprofit financial managers and accounting professionals. Program graduates leave with the know-how and action plans they need to make an impact in their organizations right away. The CNAP Training Program consists of the CNAP Essentials and follow up CNAP Advanced courses. CNAP Essentials is the gold standard training for nonprofit financial professionals.

Target Audience: Fiscal and Accounting Role

  • Years of Experience: 18 months of experience in a fiscal management capacity

Proposal Writing Bootcamp 

Learn the essential knowledge and skills to develop effective foundation grant proposals in this three-week course. In this interactive course, you will connect with expert Candid trainers and your peers to learn the practical skills needed to: build the key components of a competitive grant proposal to a foundation, develop a well-organized budget, and identify a targeted list of foundation funding prospects. You will be encouraged to approach your proposal from the funder's perspective and to think critically about what makes a compelling pitch. To accommodate diversity in learning styles, the three weeks are grounded in project-based learning and include individual writing time, self-paced eLearning, live virtual lectures, and small group discussions and peer activities.

In order to be selected for this opportunity, you will need be the grant writer and or support the grant writing for your agency. Minimal experience needed if you have transitioned into this role in your agency.
